MOREMI GAME RESERVE

Moremi Safari Camps
The Moremi Game Reserve is located in the heart of the Okavango Delta and is a haven for Botswana's wildlife and pristine wilderness.  The reserve was declared in 1963 and named for former Batawana chief Moremi III.  The reserve is unfenced but surrounded by a large buffer zone of wildlife management areas and private safari concessions.  Moremi offers only a handful of safari camps..

Mombo Camp
Cheetahs - Mombo CampMombo Camp is perhaps Botswana's premier safari camp and certainly its most renowned.  Mombo has the well-deserved reputation of having the best big game viewing in all of Botswana and arguably in all of Africa.  All the major predators are here in abundance, including leopards, lions, cheetahs and even wild dogs.  Botswana's recent re-introduction of the long extinct rhinoceros took place at Mombo Camp and the re-introduction continues very successfully today.

Mombo Camp offers nine very spacious and luxurious tents with incredible views of the surrounding floodplains.  Game viewing from camp can be almost unbelievably good.  The entire camp is raised on wooden platforms and walkways, allowing the wildlife to pass safely below.

Game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles offer views of all the plains game and birding at Mombo is superb.  Mombo is tough to beat as a safari destination.

Little Mombo Camp
Mombo Camp and Little MomboLittle Mombo is actually connected to Mombo Camp via raised walkway but is run as a totally separate safari camp.  Little Mombo offers the same incredible wildlife and safari activities - some say the best they've ever encountered - but in a smaller, more private safari camp setting.

Little Mombo's three luxury guest rooms are exactly the same design as at Mombo.  Little Mombo has its own gust lounge, dining area, kitchen and plunge pool looking over the plains.  The premier standards are the same at both camps.

Little Mombo is preferred by those wanting a more intimate camp and may also be booked by small groups.

Xigera Camp
Mokoro safari - Xigera CampXigera Camp is situated on "Paradise Island" in the Moremi Game Reserve and Xigera's location truly is a water land paradise.  Xigera is one of the few camps in the Okavango which offers year-round permanent water activities like boating, mekoro safaris and walks on secluded islands.

Nestled into a lovely island forest, the camp consists of ten luxury tented rooms with stunning views of the island.  The entire camp is built on raised wooden walkways and platforms and a permanent channel flows all year right in front of the camp.

Wildlife at Xigera is superb, with lion, hyena, and leopard even making nocturnal use of the footbridge connecting Xigera's island to the next.  Birding at Xigera is truly special, especially during the nesting season.  Pel's fishing owl, slaty egret, African skimmer and wattled cranes being only a few of the "specials" seen regularly.
